The Greek word ἔρχομαι (erchomai) is a common word that can be used in different contexts to describe different situations - depending upon the context. According to Thayer's and Strong's lexicon, it can mean:
- to come - of persons - to come from one place to another, and used both of persons arriving and of those returning - to appear, make one's appearance, come before the public.
- to come into being, arise, come forth, show itself, find place or influence - be established, become known, to come (fall) into or unto - to go, to follow one.
In the descriptions of the travels of Jesus and those around him, this word is often used to describe the various comings and goings of different people, including Jesus.
But when Jesus uses this term in the context of his coming persecution and the subsequent death of his physical body - Jesus is using the term to describe his "arising' from the physical body - and his related appearance in the spiritual realm - which together describe his arising from his earthly body to his position within the spiritual realm.
This word is also used when Jesus describes specifically his coming appearance within the spiritual realm - where he will be reunited with the Supreme Being.
This also relates to the word's use when Jesus describes the fact that when his followers die - when they leave their physical bodies - he will be there for them, to escort them back to the spiritual realm.
